Medellin, February 8, 2021. After being acknowledged in 2020 as the world’s most sustainable food company according to the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes, Grupo Nutresa was included in the Gold Class of the Sustainability Yearbook published by Standard & Poor’s – S&P Global.

S&P’s Sustainability Yearbook is a publication that highlights 15% of the companies with the best sustainability performance around the world within each one of the 61 industries that are part of the Dow Jones Indices.

This yearbook uses the Corporate Assessment in Sustainability as the basis to select the best practices, and is in turn used for assembling the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices, covering a broadened list of eligible unlisted companies. Ultimately, 203 companies from the worldwide food sector were evaluated based on their corporate practices in the social, environmental and economic dimensions.

The Organization’s continued presence in this assessment for ten consecutive years (being included in the Bronze Class in 2012 and 2014, and in the Silver Class from 2015 to 2020) reflects the deep commitment, strong leadership and consistent hard work of its entire team in the search for top competitiveness while implementing the best sustainable practices. Moreover, it is also an acknowledgment of Grupo Nutresa’s corporate capability to generate value for society as a whole.

Carlos Ignacio Gallego, Grupo Nutresa’s CEO, made the following statement in this regard: “These results represent an acknowledgment of our Organization’s capacity to evolve in terms of sustainability practices and motivate us to hold strong our conviction of promoting sustainable development and putting, today more than ever, the care for people and our planet in the center of our strategy.”

The Gold Class mention is granted to companies with a score that ranks them among the 1% of the firms with the highest performance within their corresponding industries. In this regard, Grupo Nutresa achieved a total score of 87.

According to the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes, Grupo Nutresa led with a superior performance in eleven corporate practices related to: materiality, risk and crisis management, information security and cybersecurity, tax strategy, and health and nutrition in the economic dimension; packaging materials, environmental reporting and water-related risks in the environmental dimension; and human capital development, talent attraction and retention, and social reporting in the social dimension.

Conclusively, this acknowledgment is clear evidence of the Organization’s efforts towards having an operation focused on the care for people while generating economic development and social progress with the minimum possible environmental impact.
