Grupo Nutresa will build a new production plant in Santa Marta

Medellin, August 3, 2020. Within the framework of its sustainable growth strategy and seeking higher levels of competitiveness and connectivity, Grupo Nutresa announces the construction of a new multi-category production plant in Santa Marta’s Tayrona Free Economic Zone with the aim of strengthening the growth of the Organization’s Businesses.

The selected location for the new production plant will facilitate the logistical and transport services significantly, thus allowing to serve in a more efficient way each one of the markets of the Company’s strategic region, including Central America and the Caribbean, South America and the United States.

In this regard Carlos Ignacio Gallego, stated: “The decision to build a new production plant in Colombia is a demonstration of our trust in the future of our country. It also proves the possibility of executing projects that, in addition, generate economic, social and environmental development in an environment that allows making the most of the existing free trade agreements and based on a regulatory framework that fosters the investment and development of the private sector.”

With an approximate investment of USD 133 million, this new production plant will create around 400 new direct jobs. It will certainly become an important focal point of development for the province of Magdalena and the entire Colombian North Coast region.

With regard to the decision of building this new production plant, Gallego praised the joint work carried out with the public sector: “We vastly appreciate and would like to emphatically highlight the support we have received for the start of this project from the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, the Province of Magdalena and, particularly, the city of Santa Marta. We hope that our presence in the region represents a great deal of progress for the city and its communities.”

The new facilities will comply with the highest sustainability and productivity standards, which will allow Grupo Nutresa to contribute not only to the fulfillment its business objectives, but also to its purpose of building a better world where sustainable development benefits everyone.

Currently, the project stands at the construction site preparation stage, prior to the start of the construction work. The new production plant is expected to start operations in late 2021.
